Dark Inventions announce call for works with YSFNM and Anna Meredith

The York Spring Festival of New Music invites student composers from York, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester and Huddersfeld to submit works of up to 5 minutes in duration for fute, cello and percussion, or any combination thereof.

The selected works will be workshopped and recorded by players from Dark Inventions in a workshop chaired by Anna Meredith on Sunday 3 May 2015, as part of the York Spring Festival of New Music.

The deadline for submissions is midnight on Monday 20 April.

  • Up to four works will be selected for workshop and recording.
  • Students from the University of York, York St. John, University of Leeds, Leeds College of Music, University of Sheffield, University of Manchester, Royal Northern College of Music, and the University of Huddersfeld may all submit works.
  • Works may have been previously performed, but not published.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Submissions are encouraged from students at all levels of their compositional development, but this would be a particularly valuable opportunity for those who have not previously had much work performed.
  • Please enquire if you would like to include smaller percussion such as gongs, bells, triangle, etc.
  • Scores should be submitted with parts, in PDF format.
  • Please email scores and programme note to ysfnmsubmissions@gmail.com; these should not be marked with a name as they will be given anonymously to judges.
  • For more information, please email the Chair at sarah@yorkspringfestival.co.uk.
